The Best Ways to Add Volume to Your Hair

Many women will say that when it comes to their hair they wish they could have volume and voluptuous body. Mostly this statement comes from women with fine hair, but it is not uncommon to hear women with other hair types say this also. Here are some tips on the best ways to make this happen.

Avoid Weighing Hair Down
Many times the reason that women cannot get volume is because they are weighing it down. This means that they are using excessive products that are weighing down each strand of hair. On fine hair, especially, this will remove all the volume that she had starting out with. Even some shampoos and conditioners can make this kind of impact.
Anyone with limp hair that knows they use products on a daily base needs to strip their hair by using a clarifying shampoo. This will remove excess residue and return life to the hair. They should then use a bare minimum of products when styling.

Stick to the Basics
Women looking for volume should use shampoo, conditioner (on the ends only), and mousse (avoid the ends). These three items will keep the hair from being weighted down, but will give it the lift that is needed. Add mousse to damp hair before blow drying preferably with a diffuser.

Learn to Blow-Dry Correctly
When using a hair dryer, it is best to use clips to section the hair. That way the woman can make sure that all of the hair is getting completely dry – even the roots on the very bottom layer of hair. Most women should wait until their hair is damp before starting to blow dry. This is to one, keep the woman from giving up on getting her hair completely dry, and two, use as little heat on the hair as possible. When she believes it is dry, set the blow dryer on the cool setting to make sure. This will allow her to feel and make sure each section is completely dry. Also, to properly style the hair and expect it to hold, the hair must be cool and not hot. Also, the hair that has been sectioned in clips has been allowed to dry from the roots, and this will help to give the hair lift and body.

Change the Cut
For women with fine hair, they can appear to have thick hair in one easy step – get a one length hair cut. This means no layers or odd angles. One length makes hair appear at its thickest, and for women with fine hair, layers can mean the hair appears very stringy. Also, the shorter the cut is, the thicker it will be. When fine hair gets longer, it has more weight pulling it down, which will make it appear flat. The ideal cut is at the shoulder lever. This will provide a length long enough to do several different styles but will still be able to have body.

At A Loss In Dealing With Hair Loss

Hair loss can be an embarrassing event in our lives. Some people are just blessed with that full head of healthy, thick hair since birth. Others may not be so blessed and have to find ways to help thicken and enhance our not so luxurious head of hair.

What Makes Us So Different From Our Blessed Friends
Hormonal Changes: When hormonal levels shifts drastically and are not balanced, hair loss can be an effect of this fluctuation. Events in our lives such as pregnancy highly influence our hormonal level. While pregnant, women may notice that the amount of hair that is lost decreases. This is because the high levels of certain hormones inhibit hair loss. However, after these hormones drop after pregnancy, women will notice that hair loss will begin again or increase due to the rapid drop of hormones within our system.
Major Surgery or Illness: The stress levels in our body rise as we undergo surgery or are plagued with an illness. It is this stress that causes hair loss. While most illnesses are temporary, an excessive amount of hair loss can be a symptom to more serious diseases such as lupus or diabetes. While some hair loss is normal, excessive amounts is a huge poke in the rib telling you to call a doctor for a check up. Better safe and prepared!
Hereditary: Unfortunately, our genes are something we cannot control. Hair loss can be hereditary and simply passed down from generation to generation. To help your children, maybe you should mate, I mean date, someone who is hairy and has an abundance of hairy family members?
Daily Habits: If you apply extreme stress to your hair follicles such as too tight hair bands, pigtails, cornrows or hair rollers, you are likely to experience hair loss. This is due to traction alopecia where the excessive stress on hair follicles causes scarring on the scalp. The scarring on the scalp causes permanent hair loss.

Hair Loss Options
First you want to go to your doctor if the amount of hair loss is very large. Just check off your list that an underlying disease isn’t the root of the problem. If your symptoms aren’t the cause of a serious illness, there are some available products out there that will slow down or even prevent further extreme hair loss. If the cause of your hair loss is due to hormonal balances, illnesses or medication, work with your doctor to find a balance between what you are taking. If it is a temporary illness or medication, you will have to tough it out. Better to be healthy and deal with the hair loss problem later than delay your healthy just for an attempt to look good. There are medicines that are available without a prescription called Minoxidil, which is also known as Rogaine. Rogaine is available for men and women. Make sure that the medication you are using is appropriate for women.

Hair Loss Options That Other People Can’t Pull Off
Wigs. Yeah sure anyone can wear wigs but with all that hair in the way, wigs are prone to slippage and showing off their natural hair. The great thing about thinning hair is that you get to change up your hairstyle everyday without the damage to your scalp and without the hassle of having to style it every day! There are so many cool and beautiful wigs available from the edgy red, green or purple colored wigs, to the more natural hued wigs with lovely styling.

Look at it this way, you are who you are. Haven’t I been preaching that this entire time? Work with what you got and find the best ways to highlight who you are! If you have lost most of your hair, wear a wig! Or own it and go bald! Hair just gets in the way anyway and hides our facial features. Love everything you are, no matter what comes your way.

How to Treat Oily Hair

There are many hair types in the world. Each has its own issues that can make living with it difficult. For instance, people with dry hair swear they have the worst problems, while women with oily hair will claim to have that title. The honest truth is as long as you know how to properly treat their hair, managing it will be no problem. It still may seem like a hassle on those days when you are in a rush or just not in the mood to deal with it, but it really is no worse than anyone else’s hair.

Women that wash their hair and find that in a few hours it is oily again may get frustrated, but they should actually be happy. This just means their sebaceous glands are working right. They are also keeping you from becoming bald as it has been proven that baldness starts with a dry scalp due to the sebaceous glands shrinking.

While all this seems great in retrospect, there are still countless women begging for ways to make their hair less oily looking. Not to worry as there are ways of helping glands that seem to be producing way too much oil.

It really should go without saying that women with oily hair need to shampoo everyday if it is excessive build up. The best time is in the morning as if they wash at night their hair has several hours to rebuild the sebum. Using a stronger shampoo than most people is recommended as mild shampoos may not do very much.

Using a clarifying shampoo is normally recommended for women with oily hair. Using this type of product once a week will help to remove extra buildup of oil and debris. Women with fine hair that is incredibly oily, and they are also seeing dandruff flakes should especially try using this type of shampoo.

Do not brush very often. When you brush your hair you are moving oil from the scalp throughout the rest of the hair. Try styling in the morning, and then avoiding for the rest of the day.

It is also a good idea to pull your hair back from your face as often as possible if it is oily. This will keep breakouts from occurring (or at least minimizing) on your face due to the excess oil.
Experiment with home remedies. There are many that have proven to work on oily hair, or at least show moderate results.

- An astringent made from mouthwash and witch hazel can be applied to the scalp with cotton wool. This is good for people who have consistently oily hair, and could be used before washing their hair.

- Acidic products such as lemon and vinegar really help with decreasing sebum build up. Combining lemon juice with water works well applied to hair as a rinse following a shampooing. Combining vinegar with water can be applied the same way (except the smell is more putrid). These can help to remove excess soap from the hair.

There's also a Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque which I like to use once a week to give my hair a little extra boost of moisture and repair! Unlike the shampoo and conditioner, the hair repair mask has several natural oils instead of just one, which totally makes sense since it's a repair hair therapy treatment not intended for daily use like the shampoo and conditioner. Long story short, this stuff is amazing for rejuvenating and rebuilding your locks!

So with summer ending and your hair roasted from the sun, with Winter well on it's way, it's time for you to thoroughly and deeply nourish your locks so you won't be walking around like a ball of split ends that put their hand on the electricity ball at the science fair.
