So there are several places to purchase a dress, the next step is to select the actual dress!!! Yay! Before going to the boutique or outlet, make sure to give them a call ahead of time to create an appointment. This way, when you go there, they can give you their undivided attention and help you select the best dress for you! 

Wedding gowns fall into a few categories with distinct characteristics. Wedding gown styles include: A-Line, Ball Gown, Mermaid or Trumpet, Sheath, or Short.

A-Line Wedding Gowns: These wedding gowns are characterized by an "A" shape to the dress. The dress is narrow at the top and a bit fuller at the bottom. A-line wedding gowns are perfect for any body type, tall or short. However, for those who do not have a defined waist, you may want to steer clear of this style.

Ball Gown Wedding Gowns: I like to call these dresses, the "princess" dresses. Fitted up top and very, very full on the bottom. These princess wedding gowns are recommended for those who have a full figure, are pear shaped or are thin. The design of this wedding gown style flatters these body types.

Mermaid Wedding Gowns: These weddings gowns imitate the shape of a mermaid. The wedding gown is body contoured from the top to the knees, where it then widens out. This gown is perfect for those who may have a small bust or waist and those who have an excellent figure. And for those of you who feel a little less than comfortable with your figure but you love this type of style, honey, ignore the critics. It is your day and your hubby's day! Do what makes you happy.

Sheath Wedding Gowns: Characterized by a close fitting shape, these gowns are for those who have slender curves  and a nice silhouette. The style of this wedding gown accentuates these body types the best! If you are petite, consider trying on a few dresses in this style. 

Short Wedding Gowns: Don't disregard the short wedding gowns! The new wedding dresses created today in this style are so cute and elegant! The short wedding gown can range from casual and cute to stylish and couture.

Whatever you "think" your body type is, remember to try on all styles. The above descriptions are more guidelines, not rules. So don't be afraid to try and experiment with the different wedding gown styles even if the description did not pertain to your body type.
