How to Keep Dry Hair Looking Shiny

Having soft, shiny hair is not all about genetics. It also has a lot to do with how you treat your hair. The food you eat, the chemicals and tools you use, and the amount of sunlight you get all affect the way your hair looks and feels. Some women naturally have dryer hair than others, but if treated right they can keep it looking luminous and healthy.
-
Washing
When purchasing a shampoo, get one that is light and hopefully does not contain alcohol. Use shampoo sparingly – maybe once to twice a week depending on how slowly natural oils build up in your hair. If you need to wash your hair more than this a week, it is best to substitute shampoo for conditioner. Follow up using shampoo each time with a conditioner appropriate for your type of hair, and at least once a week use an intensive conditioner.

Drying
It is best to air dry, but when it comes to styling hair this can lead to difficulties for many people with dry hair. So, if you must use a hair dryer, do not use it on soaking wet hair. Instead add a frizz serum to damp hair, and when hair is nearly dry but still damp enough to be unmanageable use a hair dryer on low heat while using a brush with a vent.

Styling
It is a good idea to add a leave-in conditioner in hair prone to dryness. This will protect it when outside in the sun. Also, when using flat-irons or curling-irons, always add a heat serum to the hair first. This will protect the hair from excess heat that will ultimately dry the hair out further. It is also not a good idea to use these products on clean hair as most of the natural oils have already been stripped away. If possible wait until the following day. Usually, if a person straightens their hair it will remain that way until being washed again. If a touch up is needed use it on the spot needed alone instead of using the tool on all of the hair again.

Home Remedies
There are a few home remedies that are inexpensive and can be done once a week or month to keep hair from being dry.
-
·         Olive oil is one of the best remedies for dry hair. It is actually a good replacement for weekly deep conditioning. An olive oil wrap should be kept in the hair for up to 20 minutes, and the person should actually go out into the sun to heat the oil on their hair after applying. Then rinse in cool water.
-
·         Mayonnaise plus an egg work to add proteins to the hair to make it shiny. This should be applied to hair before it is washed normally. Pile hair on top of your head and wrap with saran wrap, leave for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Follow this by shampooing and conditioning like normal.
