The Snooze Addict Hair Tutorial

I have spent a lot of time pressing the snooze button on my alarm clock and running out of the front door like a nocturnal animal out in the sunlight over the years. I certainly know the importance of being able to do quick and easy hairstyles that make you look like a million dollars, when you only have five minutes to get to class on time, or to catch the subway for work. We've all been there and well, I think it's safe to say that every day is like this for me. However, it's not all bad news because my lack of ability to wake up on time has allowed me to master the easiest and chicest hairstyle out there that will have you cutting corners and making it to your destinations, looking fabulous in no time. Here is my favourite quick and easy hair tutorial that you will ever need when trying to survive from an excessive snooze-pressing morning.

I named this hair tutorial over the one step that takes this look from gross bed head to a glamorous, red carpet look. Ponytails can be so super boring, and if you've been sleeping your hair all night, chances are that you're going to wake up and find pieces sticking up over here, flopping over there and twisting up into a spiral back there. Hey! It happens to all of us. However, these little hair strands that are ever so sporadic can make it very difficult to pull your hair up into a cute high ponytail, which is why I created the Flip It.

Comb your hair back into a low ponytail, allowing pieces to fall where they may. After all, your bus comes in 5 minutes so you don't really have time to play around with it, right? Once you have tied your ponytail, separate it into two pieces above the elastic, so in between your head and the hair elastic. When parting your ponytail into the two sections, be sure to do so right through your hair so you can see that the middle is clear of hair strands. Take your ponytail and flip it up and through the hole that was created with the separation, pulling it back down and under. Pull and tighten.

This action will create a twist right at the start of your pony tail, not only hiding the elastic in a unique and chic way, but adding texture and personality to a rather basic look. From here, you have several options to continue with a braid, or a bun if your hair is really funky from a night full of tossing and turning, but you can most certainly leave it, as it and you will look absolutely fabulous. This hair tutorial literally takes only seconds to accomplish and no one would ever know that you crawled out of bed only seconds before leaving your house. To revamp this look if you find yourself snoozing it until minutes before you are required to clock in at your job every day, switch it up from a higher pony tail, to a side one, or a super low pony tail.

The Craze of Top Knots: Tutorial!

Photo Credit: http://beautyeditor.ca/2010/08/04/move-over-side-braid-its-time-to-embrace-the-top-knot-a-k-a-summers-perfect-hairstyle/

Top knots are super hot for this fall and they never seem to go out of style. Celebrities all over Hollywood love rocking this chic hairstyle, whether they're running errands and making the sidewalk their runway, or walking the red carpet at some of the hottest events worldwide. However, you don't need the lights, camera and action to achieve this playful and flirty look, nor do you need to break the bank at a hair salon. With a few simple tips and tricks, you'll be rocking a top bun like you own it.

First, you need to get your hair tied back into a slick ponytail. Of course, you can always leave some pieces hanging down for a more relaxed look.

Once you have your hair tied back into a ponytail, divide it into two parts and start to separated wrap each around the elastic band that is currently holding your hair into a pony tail. Feel free to get creative with the wrapping! Braids and twists would be fabulous elements to this hairstyle.

Secure each section that you have wrapped around your elastic band with some bobby pins. Try to intertwine the pins into the actual base of the ponytail for a better hold.

Now, that is the basic top knot bun that you can achieve, and once you have that down pat, it's most certainly time for you to indulge in your inner creative side and see what else you can pull off. As mentioned, twists and braids are always trendy tweaks that you can imply into any hair style. They're also super easy to achieve to add a little more personality into your look.

Another great option would be to twist the separated pieces in opposite directions. Your hair will fold into the top knot bun differently, and with this hair style being so trendy, it can't hurt to add a little spin and look different! If you really trust your talents and bobby pins, try to separate the ponytail into three or four pieces instead of the original two in the basic tutorial above. This will provide volume and texture and surely, the unique look that you're craving.

Celebrities from Kate Bosworth, Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie and Whitney Port are some of Hollywood's hottest stars that are often spotted rocking this fabulous little hair style. Now, you can look just as marvelous and achieve the top bun look without the salon and all of the hassle that most hair tutorials bring! All you need to know is the basic top knot bun tutorial and from there, you'll be able to implement different elements into your hair to achieve the look that you want.  Are you lacking some inspiration? Scan over some of the hottest Hollywood stars versions of the top knot and see if you can make the tweaks necessary to get the same look. And well, if you do - don't forget to give us a little shout and tutorial at the Flat Iron Experts blog, okay?

Fall 2012 Hair Trends

With September already here (I know! It's unbelievable) it's time for us ladies to get in touch with the new hair trends that the fall season is about to throw on us. Just because the weather is dark and droopy doesn't mean that our hair styles have to be! Here are the top hair trends for the Fall 2012 season that can be easily accomplished in your bathroom at home!

Of course, we need to start with a staple that never leaves the hair style trends lists no matter the century. You guessed it, the pony tail! It's the easiest of the bunch and with a few changes, you can adopt the fall style in no time. This fall's pony tail is all about precision. To achieve this look perfectly, become a perfectionist! It's all about pulling your hair back into a sleek and frizz-free, simply chic pony tail. Want to know the trick of the trade? Use a great serum!

Although many may beg to differ, it's not go big or go home when it comes to your locks for fall. Designers styled their models in a low-key, natural hair style, which is truly perfect for fall. The fall wind almost always messes up your hair throughout the day, so how amazing is a trend that lets you just roll with it? Give your hair a break and put that teasing comb in a drawer for this season because you won't be needed it anytime soon.

I can't believe that these words are about to come out of my mouth, but it looks like the braid hair trend has finally died out. I know, it's shocking! Braids have been the "it" factor for hair trends for seasons upon seasons, but it's time to retire this look. Instead, there's an easier alternative! Rock a twist as opposed to a braid. Has your go-to hair look been the braided bangs for the past year? Achieve the same look, and keep up with the trends by twisting your bangs back instead of braiding it. All you really have to do is switch what you would have usually braided, to a twist. Pretty simple, right?

Lastly, it's time to bling out your hair accessories! Whether you're rocking a gem-infested hair clip, or a head band with a large, sparkly medallion, it's all about adding jewelry into your hair style! This is a great trend and a favourite of many designers because it gives you the option to express your interests and personality in a whole new way. Plus, if you're a little do-it-yourself diva, these hair accessories are simple to make and let you indulge in your creative side.

The hair trends of fall seem to be natural and simply chic which is absolutely perfect because no one wants to spend hours on end in the salon trying to get the latest and greatest look. This fall we can save time and money by achieving this fabulously fresh fall hair styles in our very own bathrooms. Pretty fabulous, I know.

Get a Fun Bun!

It's definitely no surprise that this year it's all about the comeback of the bun, whether it be a top knot, or a sock in your hair. Now, don't go into a panic ladies. Although buns are often clean, prim and proper, this year it's all about easy hair buns that can be accomplished by any and everyone! Read on for some new ideas when it comes to adding a fun bun to your hair wardrobe!

THE TOP KNOT: Of course, we have to start with a truly feminine and flirty look! The secret to this bun is to tie your hair up into a bun, and pinning it where needed to make it look into a knot. You may need to play around with your strands for a little bit to get it perfect, but what hairstyle don't you have to do that for, right? Twist and pull until you have the look you're going for, and pin that bad boy up there and you'll be rocking a fresh look from day to night!

THE SOCK BUN: This is a personal favourite of mine! It's so simple and for days when I really just don't have the motivation to do my hair, or I pressed snooze one too many times in the morning and I have to rush out of the house (story of my life!), the Sock bun in my life saver. I kid you not. It's God sent! You can purchase an actual sock bun accessory thing for this look, but I personally believe that using an actual sock is the best way to go. After all, it is a SOCK bun, right? All you have to do is tie your hair up into a ponytail, place your sock over your pony, and roll your hair all the way down, tucking it into the sock as you do so. It takes literally 2 minutes. It's amazing.

THE BRAIDED BUN: Now, this is a great option because, not only are braids super bad ass this season, but they are the perfect little element to take your look from ugly to unique, and no one wants ugly hair, do they? Braid one your whole pony tail, or several strands, or maybe just one little one, twist, clip and you're looking trendy as all hell. Another great thing about the braided bun is that you can essentially make any bun, a braided bun. Add a braid into your sock bun, or top knot. It never hurts to add two amazing hair trends into one look!

THE MESSY BUN: It's not what it used to be, back in the early 2000's when you literally plopped your hair up on your head. Instead, the messy bun is a little more clean and refined. Sure, you're still plopping it up on your head, but make it a little tighter than you would have in grade 9 to really get this hair trend right. All else fails, you know you have a hidden stash of bobbie pins.

So indulge in a fun bun, ladies! They're fast, easy and versatile!

How to Keep Dry Hair Looking Shiny

Having soft, shiny hair is not all about genetics. It also has a lot to do with how you treat your hair. The food you eat, the chemicals and tools you use, and the amount of sunlight you get all affect the way your hair looks and feels. Some women naturally have dryer hair than others, but if treated right they can keep it looking luminous and healthy.
-
Washing
When purchasing a shampoo, get one that is light and hopefully does not contain alcohol. Use shampoo sparingly – maybe once to twice a week depending on how slowly natural oils build up in your hair. If you need to wash your hair more than this a week, it is best to substitute shampoo for conditioner. Follow up using shampoo each time with a conditioner appropriate for your type of hair, and at least once a week use an intensive conditioner.
 -
Drying
It is best to air dry, but when it comes to styling hair this can lead to difficulties for many people with dry hair. So, if you must use a hair dryer, do not use it on soaking wet hair. Instead add a frizz serum to damp hair, and when hair is nearly dry but still damp enough to be unmanageable use a hair dryer on low heat while using a brush with a vent.
-
Styling
It is a good idea to add a leave-in conditioner in hair prone to dryness. This will protect it when outside in the sun. Also, when using flat-irons or curling-irons, always add a heat serum to the hair first. This will protect the hair from excess heat that will ultimately dry the hair out further. It is also not a good idea to use these products on clean hair as most of the natural oils have already been stripped away. If possible wait until the following day. Usually, if a person straightens their hair it will remain that way until being washed again. If a touch up is needed use it on the spot needed alone instead of using the tool on all of the hair again.
-
Home Remedies
There are a few home remedies that are inexpensive and can be done once a week or month to keep hair from being dry.
-
·         Olive oil is one of the best remedies for dry hair. It is actually a good replacement for weekly deep conditioning. An olive oil wrap should be kept in the hair for up to 20 minutes, and the person should actually go out into the sun to heat the oil on their hair after applying. Then rinse in cool water.
-
·         Mayonnaise plus an egg work to add proteins to the hair to make it shiny. This should be applied to hair before it is washed normally. Pile hair on top of your head and wrap with saran wrap, leave for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Follow this by shampooing and conditioning like normal.
